Organization

Louisiana Association of the Deaf, Inc. (LAD) is the oldest and largest consumer organization of Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the state of Louisiana. LAD was founded in 1908 by alumni of the Louisiana School for the Deaf.

An executive board is elected by the general membership during the organization’s
biennial conference and governs the LAD. The executive board, whose members are deaf and hard of hearing, consists of officers and elected representatives who serve on a voluntary basis.

As a non-profit, tax-exempt consumer organization, the LAD is supported by its members and others interested in furthering the LAD goals. Membership is open to any Louisiana citizen who is deaf or hard of hearing; parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing; professionals who work with deaf and hard of hearing youth and adults; and other individuals interested in supporting LAD goals.

Louisiana, through the LAD, is one of 50 states affiliated with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD). The NAD advocates for the educational, economic, and social well being of deaf and hard of hearing people on a national and international level. LAD is Louisiana’s official delegate to the NAD biennial conferences.

Mission

Statement improve the quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing individuals including, but not limited to, deaf-blind individuals, parents of deaf children, interpreters, late-deafened adults and children of deaf parents.

Vision

  • Advocate for equal access for deaf and hard of hearing Louisiana citizens to improve educational, employment and public services
  • Develop programs to prepare future deaf and hard of hearing leaders
  • Promote public awareness and education about deaf and hard of hearing people
  • Support the programs and services of LAD including its boards, committees and public education activities

Contribution Opportunities

Tax Deductible: Louisiana Association of the Deaf, Inc. (LAD) is a 501©3 educational institution as determined by the IRS and directly supports the deaf community around Louisiana. All donations to LAD are tax deductible. If you wish to make a tax deductible contribution to LAD, we cannot provide anything in return other than thanking you for your contribution on our organization. A copy of the LAD IRS Determination letter may be obtained by contacting the LAD office.
